Victorian Government commits to long term support of apprentices through the group training industry. The Victorian Premier the Hon. Daniel Andrews and the Hon. Steve Herbert, Minister for Training and Skills announced in Geelong earlier today that the Victorian Government will commit to provide $9.3million in funding over the next 3 years to support Victorian group training organisations employ apprentices and trainees.
Gforce wins contract to help the Barwon’s young job seekers Geelong-based Gforce will help hundreds of jobless youth take a confident step towards employment after winning a four-year federal government contract to deliver `work ready’ skills across the Barwon region. Chief executive officer Rob Birch says the Transition to Work program is an exciting opportunity for young people including early school leavers in a region where youth unemployment tops 19% per cent in some areas within our region.

BABY Boomers have been the backbone of Australia’s workforce for many years. The boomer generation, which numbers more than 5.5 million, has helped build the country’s economy and shape its society. And, over the next decade or two, they’ll change that working landscape yet again as they retire from paid employment. This exodus will have an impact across Australia, including in the Geelong region. Mature-age workers bring valuable expertise, knowledge and life experience to Geelong’s varied businesses and organisations.
A new Soup Bus will feed more vulnerable Ballarat residents. CDC has announced it will donate a retired bus to the OnTrack Foundation, which operates the Ballarat institution. Bus founder Craig Schepis said they might now return to the original goal of operating in areas like Wendouree and Delacombe. “Eight years ago, when I first started the first one, the plan was to do two nights in the CBD, and one night in outlying areas that need help,” he said.
Australia’s top group training apprentices and trainees embarked on an intensive career and leadership program that assisted to equip them with the tools and skills to become future leaders. The Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders (TSTL) program brings together 21 outstanding apprentices and trainees, selected from some 27,000 group training apprentices and trainees around Australia. Gforce trainee, Michtell McDowell, who is hosted by GEOTEST Civil Services, North Geelong was selected to attend the 3 day program in Canberra.
2014-15 Gforce Awards Following the success of the inaugural 2013/14 Gforce Apprentice and Trainee Awards, the 2014/15 Gforce Awards was held on 25 June 2015 in the Fred Flanagan Room, Simonds Stadium.
Ten eager students had six hours to prepare a vegetarian entree, poultry main course and a duo dessert. Ingredients were limited which increased the level of the challenge. This year’s WorldSkills regional cookery round was held last week during the Gordon’s Open Day. The students were judged on taste, presentation, their cookery skills and their professionalism within the kitchen.
