2014-15 Gforce Awards Following the success of the inaugural 2013/14 Gforce Apprentice and Trainee Awards, the 2014/15 Gforce Awards was held on 25 June 2015 in the Fred Flanagan Room, Simonds Stadium.
Ten eager students had six hours to prepare a vegetarian entree, poultry main course and a duo dessert. Ingredients were limited which increased the level of the challenge. This year’s WorldSkills regional cookery round was held last week during the Gordon’s Open Day. The students were judged on taste, presentation, their cookery skills and their professionalism within the kitchen. Gforce together with People @ Work sponsored the first Geelong Young Professionals event for 2015 featuring creator of objects and crafter of steel Nigel Petrie. Over 100 young professionals attended the breakfast held at Geelong’s Truffle Duck to listen to the engineer discuss his own endeavor to create and inspire and the creation of Engineered to Slide.
Gforce has been presented with the Corporate Award at the annual Impetus Geelong Youth Awards held over the weekend. The category recognises businesses that highlight youth development as a core component of their business. Gforce's Staffing Solutions division will continue to help shape Geelong's diverse workforce after winning an increased five-year federal government Employment Services contract to deliver quality services to job seekers and employers across the region. Chief Executive Officer Rob Birch says the new Employment Services 2015-20 contract called Jobactive means Gforce can increase its positive impact on the region's community. And he is confident Geelong's business leaders can help provide career pathways for unemployed people wanting to work.
Gforce Employment Solutions is bringing its successful Apprentices & Trainees program to Ballarat to help businesses build a strong future for themselves and the city's young people. The group training organisation, one of Victoria's largest employers of apprentices and trainees, wants to place 30 trainees and apprentices with businesses in the next 12 months. And program leader Lucy O'Reilly is adamant that's got to be good news for the regional city.
Young workers will get skills of a different kind in a partnership between Gforce and headspace. The partnership will help those aged 12 to 25 to better deal with they general, sexual and mental health and substance problems. Gforce chief Rob Birch said the company employed more than 420 apprentices and trainees in Geelong and both staff and clients had seen a need to enhance health service access, information and support. "Headspace Geelong now offers outreach alcohol and other drug (AOD) services at Gforce's offices for up to a day a week," Mr Birch said.
Gforce trainee Grace Brennan has been selected as an Australian Apprenticeship Ambassador in order to share her real-life success story with would-be trainees. The 19 year old has completed a certificate III traineeship in Education Support at Clonard College and is now currently completing her certificate IV.
Gforce staff members and their families assisted in packing up after Cottage by the Sea's annual fair on the weekend. The major fundraiser, held every year, raised over $70,000 for the children's charity. A big thank you to all the staff that donated their time to assist on the day.
